Salvadorian Tamale

What is a Tamale?

A tamale is one of the first "take-out" foods, originating way back between 8000 and 5000 B.C. They're made of a steamed corn dough called "masa" and filled with a variety of things depending on where they're coming from and the type of tamale being made.

At Los Comales, we feature Mexican and Salvadorian tamales. Mexican tamales are steamed in a corn husk and are filled with chicken and mole sauce. Salvadorian tamales are steamed in banana leaf and are filled with chicken, vegetables and salsa.
